A Peek into our Classroom
In expedition, students learn more about the states of matter by changing a solid (ice) into a liquid (water). Students had some creative ways to melt their ice.
Students are working hard to prepare for portfolio presentations next week.
Crew Learning
Expedition/Language: This week we launched a new expedition titled "What's the Matter?" Students sharpened their skills as scientists when making observations about the three states of matter (solid, liquid, & gas) and how one state of matter can change into another state (our ice melt experiment).
HINTS
AT HOME: What do you know about the three states of matter?

Writing:
We have used some of our writing time to prepare for portfolio presentations. On Monday, we had Ms. Elisha come model what a third grade portfolio presentation looks and sounds like. Students began practicing by themselves and with a partner. Tomorrow we will practice with a 5th grade partner.
Language:
Students did an incredible job noticing all the unique features of procedural writing. The next step will be to include these features into our own writing of procedural writing.
|
Math: We wrapped up our unit with a review of positive and negative numbers, as well as double digit multiplication using the partial product and lattice method. Today we took the unit assessment.
HINTS AT HOME: Keep practicing math facts. We will be doing end of the year assessments of multiplication facts in May.
|
Reading Workshop: This week I introduced a rubric to set some goals about how to elevate our skills during literature discussion groups. The immediate feedback of the rubric is very helpful when debriefing how each discussion went. We will continue this round of groups into next week.
HINTS
AT HOME: What do you feel is going well in literature discussion groups? What goals are you working on?
